In addition to the frequent posts on their blog, they also offer a free eBook, Seven Easy Irresistible Soups, to all new email subscribers.
Describe your journey to a simpler or more minimal lifestyle-
Sometime in midlife, it dawned on me that people are much, much more important than things. I’m learning what’s important to me, and recognizing that I must discard what’s unimportant to make room for what is. As time passes, I am learning what makes for a happy, meaningful life; in my blog I write a lot about this.
What is your favorite quote?
“Hope is not about proving anything. It’s about choosing to believe this one thing, that love is bigger than any grim, bleak shit anyone can throw at us.” ― Anne Lamott, Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith
Do you have a personal motto or creed that you live by?
Here are some of the ways I try to bring meaning to my own life:
-First and foremost, my goal is to help as many people as I can, in as many ways as I can. As there’s always more I could be doing, this is a goal that I can only strive for, but never completely fulfill.
– I really enjoy children; just being around them makes me happy. I love teaching children, and especially love teaching them to read.
– I love to cook and often make meals for others. If someone is doing through a rough time, it’s my favorite way to show that I care.
-Performing acts of kindness, large and small, truly makes me happy.
-Making others happy makes me happy.
-I try to recognize all of the blessings in my life, and remember to be grateful for them.
-Connecting with nature enriches my life tremendously.
-I try to practice mindfulness in everyday life.
From whom or what do you find inspiration?
Since I have been writing for Ahh The Simple Life, I have found inspiration in all sorts of places — websites, blogs, YouTube, National Public Radio (NPR). One of my favorite websites is Greater Good – University of California, Berkeley. I have a friend named Helen who inspires me with her marvelous attitudes towards life; she is the most grateful person imaginable. I’m also inspired by my sister, and co-blogger, Michele, who is quite simply the sweetest, most caring person imaginable. Then there is my friend Joan; she has done more than anyone else to encourage me to try new things and enjoy life more.
What is the first thing you do when starting your day?
Hug my sweet dog Tillie, who always sleeps with my husband and me. Next lie quietly for a few minutes, sometimes recounting blessings, sometimes planning my day, sometimes meditating.
What is your favorite book?
It would be difficult to name just one. One of my top favorite authors is William G. Tapply; I love his mystery series, and his writing is as clean and crisp as it gets. Another is Anne Lamott; see https://www.facebook.com/AnneLamott. I love her for herself and for her inspirational content.
