Consumer Chronicles Week 1

CCWK1

I decided I would give my accountability posts for this project on Saturdays, as that is usually when my shopping for the week ends. I like to stay home and take it easy on Sundays. This week was fairly easy, it is only a few days into the New Year, and, I hurt my back this past Monday, so I was in bed until Wednesday, making it fairly easy to stay out of stores.

That didn’t stop me from being on the computer though, and we all know one of my vices is Amazon. I tried not to go there, I really did, but my hubby’s birthday is this month and I wanted to start looking for a gift! I didn’t find anything fitting for him, but I did add a few things to the shopping cart for myself and the kids… below is my train of thought for this past week-

January 1st-January 3rd

Wanted: New African Bolsa Basket to use specifically for squash, onion and garlic. (I already have a very large one in the kitchen that holds all of that plus our fruit).

Outcome: Did not purchase it. I decided I didn’t want another basket taking up space on the counter and I don’t know of any really good reason why the garlic and onions can’t share the basket with our fruit.

Wanted: New jewelry organizer. I just minimized all my jewelry and have much less, so I wanted a smaller organizer instead of the larger hanging one in my closet.

Outcome: Remembered that I had given my smaller one to my daughter when I bought my larger one, which she has now outgrown, so we traded organizers and are both happy now.

Wanted: Eyeshadow brush. I probably really do need this, as I am currently putting on my eyeshadow with my finger because the little sponge has fallen apart.

Outcome: Haven’t gotten around to purchasing it yet.

Wanted: To get in and out of PetSmart with purchasing only dog food.

Outcome: Took the kids with me and came out of PetSmart with dog food, dog treats, a dog tutu and two dog sweaters…I would say this one was a big FAIL.

Justification: I had a lot of extra unused money in our Pet Budget, and decided to blow it on dog clothing, might I say, with plenty of urging by the kids…Now that I am home, and the dogs have both tried on their outfits, I have buyer’s remorse and should have saved the extra money for emergencies, like when they sneak corn cobs or get stung by wasps. But, Jilly does look pretty cute in her tutu, don’t you think?

AMAZON.COM PURCHASES

Amazon gets it’s own accountability section because it is just THAT big of a temptation for me-

Wanted: Dr. Scholl’s shoe inserts to help with my lower back pain, inserts for one of the kid’s foot problems and two new shirts and a pair of pants for one of the boy’s school uniforms.

Outcome: I ordered all of the above.

Justification: The inserts are to help with my recent back problems, so I look at those more as a medical cost, same for my child. I should probably not have purchased the school uniform clothing since my son cut holes in his other ones on purpose when he was bored during art class. I’m not going to be too hard on myself about that one though.
